At Anthony’s Scrubs, we offer light therapy lamps, which can be used to treat a wide variety of medical and psychological conditions. Today, I’ll discuss light therapy and how it can be used. I’ll also show you the light therapy systems that we offer.
You may be familiar with light therapy as a treatment for seasonal affective disorder (SAD). People who suffer from SAD experience depression during certain times of the year, usually fall or winter, and they benefit from exposure to bright light. Light therapy (also referred to as phototherapy) is also used to treat a variety of other psychological and medical conditions, including:
- Jet lag
- Circadian rhythm disorders
- Shift work sleep disorder
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- General depression
- Parkinson’s disease
As long as you choose a light therapy device that filters out UV rays (ours do), light therapy poses few risks. Mild side effects can include headache, nausea, and eyestrain. For this reason, doctors often recommend light therapy to supplement other therapies or as an alternative to medications. For example, pregnant women who cannot take their depression medication may find light therapy to be an effective alternative.
If you’re interested in light therapy, you may want to work with your doctor to develop a treatment plan that works best for you. Generally, light therapy is done in the morning. You sit in close proximity to a light therapy lamp, usually for 30 minutes at a time. You can continue to work during treatment as long as you remain within close proximity to the light therapy box.
At Medhooo, we offer two bright light therapy systems by Day-Light: the Day-Light Classic and the Day-Light Sky. What’s the difference? The Day-Light Classic is ideal for home use, and it can be used with or without the legs. The Day-Light Sky can be used at home or at the office, and when you’re not using it as a light therapy device, you can use it as a regular task light. It’s smaller than the Day-Light Classic. Both items have a 10,000 LUX field of illumination and block over 99% of UV rays.
